On a cool September evening in 1990, four friends ventured into the dense, shadowy confines of Greenlock Woods, only to vanish without a trace. In the survival horror game Lurking Darkness, players step into the role of a volunteer in the ensuing search party, tasked with piecing together the events of that fateful night. The game’s aesthetic pays homage to the gritty, atmospheric visuals of classic PS1-era horror titles, setting the stage for a suspenseful investigation.
As players navigate the foreboding forest, the game mechanics demand both caution and courage. Movement is controlled by the WASD keys, interaction with the environment through the ‘E’ key, and urgent sprints away from unseen threats are triggered with ‘Shift’. A flashlight, activated by pressing ‘F’, becomes a crucial tool in piercing the pervasive darkness that conceals both clues and dangers. Each step forward may bring players closer to the truth or deeper into peril, with every shadow potentially hiding the key to solving the mystery—or something far more sinister.
